An Update From The HOA President:
On another note, the first things that will be addressed with the inspections and violation letters will be garbage cans out of sight of front streets, mailboxes uniform and in good shape, fences fixed, and cars blocking sidewalks such that our kids have to go into the streets. All of this is in the covenant and based on curb appeal or city code. If you’re parking your car in the yard, we will send out a notice (yes, we’ve had to do this). As in past years, we’ve hired off-duty cops to help stop the large amount of Carrier and Amazon employees shortcutting through the subdivision to access High School Road. This summer, we busted folks with no licenses and/or registration for vehicles, speeding up to 61 mph on Pluto and blowing through many a stop sign(s) along the way. We also had the police conduct a 4-hour traffic flow survey to determine possible speed bump locations based on the math. 92% of the traffic flow during the 4 hours was via Sun/Moon Drive, Venus Drive, Pluto Drive, Moon Court, Glenwoods, and reverse. 92%. As such, if/when we install speed bumps, it will surely be Pluto Drive, based on the science and traffic flow. We are currently budgeting for this.
On a related note, hiring off-duty cops does NOT make them our “security police” or anything like that—just traffic issues. I have been in contact and meetings with our City-County Councillor, District 22, Jared Evans, about what if we were to disband the HOA and turn it over to the city, amongst other crime and economic talks the past few years with both Bill Moser from Glenwoods and I. Several folks here have suggested disbanding the Sungate HOA, and I asked him about this. What did he say in response to getting rid of the HOA?
“Hey, Thomas. I don’t think disbanding the HOA would be a good idea. The city is not going to maintain common grounds. We don’t do that. The most that would happen regarding the ponds is that the Health Department would spray for mosquitos. Furthermore, who will pay for the streetlights? Because it’s a subdivision, the city won’t take on that bill,….” “Your dues are the second cheapest that I am aware of. Bridgeport Commons, Salem Creek HOA, and Berkshire all pay dues in the $ 300’s and $ 400’s.”
I’ve already posted what would happen with plowing, requiring a minimum of 6 inches of snow and being dead last on the priority of getting plowed. That’s a stated fact from the Mayor’s office, so you do the math? We can certainly have that talk, but I would be educated on the realities and repercussions before that talk.
Our Annual General Meeting is on Tuesday, March 14, from 6 PM to 8 PM.
More when I can. Take care.
